Description: Originally a rare, factory black paint with red interior car, this 1955 Austin Healey 100/4 BN1 is represented by previous long, term owner as first titled in California, with original owner residing in San Jose, CA. The car was last registered in CA in 1972 as verified by 1972 CA license tab, and dry stored in CA and briefly in Oregon where dealer purchased the car in 2025. This CA Black Plate, unrestored, “survivor” appears to be a worthy candidate for a restoration, featuring a straight, original chassis and body, no collision damage indicated and with original black paint still present on most panels. No apparent holes/rust-through on lower body panels and doors- a rare find in early 100/4s. The body panels and cockpit moldings indicate 9401 body number. There is surface rust on much of the body and chassis, however rust-through is mainly present in the trunk/boot area. No rust through the main frame rails were found. The lower several inches of rear aluminum shroud is corroded, and a good condition repair panel from a factory rear shroud is included with the car. History: Some history of this car was provided by the previous owner. To add to this, we try to do our own research and let the car provide its own clues. We believe three owners from new, with long history in the S.F. South Bay area, primarily in San Jose CA. Dealer license plate frame on car is from Valley Imports in Mountain View, CA, with believed to be original, CA black plate with last tab 1972. Claimed dry storage in CA last owner acquired from his friend and stored the car in Oregon until we purchased it recently
The car will have a 2025 WA State title in the dealer’s name. Original, matching number engine # 1B/226328 is basically complete.. The cylinder head was removed and the cylinder bores measure at .030 overbore, with clean cylinder walls and good condition cylinder head, with wear supporting 59,000 miles indicated pm the odometer. The engine was pre-lubed, cylinders soaked with Marvel Mystery oil prior to turning over engine. The BN1 Overdrive transmission was purchased in 2025, previously rebuilt by a Healey specialist and includes a brief letter from a well-known British car machine shop/engine rebuilder. Rebuild includes transmission and overdrive with no claimed miles since rebuild.
This Healey BN1 is now offered with a variety of included, but not installed parts, including an original 4 piece cockpit trim all stamped “9401”, radiator, NOS black vinyl top and tonneau cover, original top frame, front bumper, bracket and overriders, driveshaft, floor mats, Ampco chrome luggage rack (will need adapting to fit existing holes) and badging. Please look at all the photos and the walk around video (available soon). BHT Certificate, manuals and other misc. parts and documentation. We welcome a phone call to answer any questions you may have.
